Every cent of a $57.72 average sale, down to the little over half that is left before licence royalties — and the line that decides it is the one priced from a single Unmatched set.
The publisher gave the one cost that matters. In April 2025 Jacobson wrote that a standard Unmatched 4-pack costs about $5 to make, and that is 12.5% of that set’s $39.99 buy box. The model carries that ratio to every listing. That holds for Unmatched sets. It is weak for Thunder Road: Vendetta, about 73% of September’s own-account revenue, including a $160 deluxe box nobody priced. Tariff is today’s rate on board games from China, 20% of the manufacturing cost; units landed during 2025 paid far more, and that is not modelled. Amazon’s two fees are measured per listing.
| Line | Unmatched 4-pack | Thunder Road: Vendetta | Maximum Chrome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing — the publisher’s $5 for the 4-pack, carried pro rata to the others | $5.00 | $7.49 | $20.00 |
| Tariff, 20% of manufacturing | $1.00 | $1.50 | $4.00 |
| Freight and inbound — a placeholder, not a quote | $1.50 | $1.50 | $1.50 |
| For comparison: tariff on the 4-pack at April 2025’s 145%, the publisher’s own figure | $7.50 | — | — |
| Buy box on Amazon | $39.99 | $59.95 | $160.00 |
Only the first column’s manufacturing figure comes from the publisher; the other two are the same 12.5% of price. The tariff rate is a secondary summary (tariffstool.com), not a customs ruling.
Royalties are the cost this profile cannot price, and it is not a small one for a publisher. Several Unmatched sets are licensed from Marvel, The Witcher, TMNT, Buffy and Jurassic Park, and nobody publishes the rate. In September the only named licensed listing with a badge, the TMNT set, was in a reseller’s buy box, so none of the own account’s month sits on a named licence. But whether Thunder Road: Vendetta, about 73% of that revenue, pays a royalty to its designers or anyone else is unknown either way. The profit here is before that.
Three of these six lines are Amazon’s or the publisher’s; two are placeholders and one is stretched past what its source covers. Manufacturing on Thunder Road is the first number to replace — and royalties are the first number to add.
