Margin breakdown

Read Sep 2026. Figures here are a reading taken then, not a live feed.

A little over a quarter of each dollar survives the kit, the box, the boat and Amazon — and on the cheapest product in the catalogue it is closer to a sixth.

Two of these lines are measured and the rest are built. Amazon’s referral rate is 15% on all four products — checked on each, because they sit in four different category trees and one of them contains a bracelet, so a 20% jewellery rate was a live possibility — and the fulfilment fee is Amazon’s own pick-and-pack figure per listing. Everything under cost of goods is assembled: component prices the owner supplied from his own Alibaba quotes, a flat 20% tariff standing in for an HTS classification nobody has made, a dated ocean-freight reading, and two lines — kitting and prep — that nobody has quoted at all.

Two products get their own breakdown below because they do not share a cost structure worth averaging. In September the baptism keepsake set was 65% of revenue and the scripture-card jar 19%; the set alone falls short of the four-fifths of the month a blended figure needs to describe, so both are here, with the whole brand at September’s mix last. The journals and the gift bundle are not broken out — together they were under a sixth of the month — but their costs are in the blended tab.

The three softest figures in the model, in order: the overlap between the door-to-door freight rate and the prep line, which makes every landed cost a ceiling; the flat 20% tariff, which stands in for a customs broker classifying each kit; and kitting, which is a real cost on a five-piece box that nobody has put a price on. Closing all three would move the margin by a point or two, in a direction the overlap says is up.

The margin block and the profit series on the chart are one model, so they cannot disagree with each other. What neither can do is replace an invoice: nobody at Highmark Collective has shown us a supplier bill, a freight bill or an advertising bill, and only Amazon’s two fees here are read from Amazon.
